by: Financial Advisor
U.S. annuity sales hit a record $119.3 billion in the third quarter, up 4% from the previous quarter, marking the eighth straight quarter above $100 billion, according to LIMRA. Year-to-date sales reached $345 billion, the highest ever for nine months. Growth was fueled by strong demand for registered annuity products, especially registered index-linked annuities, which soared 20% to $20.6 billion. Traditional variable annuities rose 11% to $16.7 billion, while fixed-rate deferred annuities increased 3% to $41.7 billion. However, fixed-indexed annuity sales declined 6%. Despite expected impacts from Federal Reserve rate cuts, LIMRA forecasts that total 2025 annuity sales will exceed $450 billion.
