60% of Pre-Retirees Lack a Financial Advisor

Six in 10 Americans approaching retirement do not work with a financial advisor, according to Limra’s 2026 Retirement Income Readiness Report, and those without advisors report substantially lower retirement confidence. Only 47% of pre-retirees without an advisor feel highly prepared, compared with 77% of those who receive professional advice. Half lack a meaningful or recently updated written retirement plan, while 74% want to learn more about protected lifetime income. Cost-of-living volatility and the risk of outliving savings remain major concerns. Limra says advisors have an opportunity to address the advice gap by providing clearer education, accessible planning and income strategies that address concerns about costs and control.
