Retirement Industry Looks for Encore to SECURE Act

The retirement industry is looking for further reform this year following passage of the Setting Every Community up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act of 2019. Members of both chambers of Congress have signaled willingness for further changes, while the SEC is also expected to continue its reform agenda and will, among other things, continue to fight exchanges in court over whether it can proceed with a transaction fee pilot program to see how exchanges charge customers, with a judicial opinion expected in early 2020. Groups like ICI and Council of Institutional Investors backed the SEC in a joint amicus brief, saying the pilot program "is urgently needed."
