Rep. McHenry Probes Agencies' IGs for Cost Cutting Measures

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), the new ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, wants eight Inspectors General (IGs) of the agencies within the committee’s jurisdiction to provide updates on their efforts to reduce waste, fraud and abuse by cutting unimplemented recommendations. McHenry’s Monday letter highlights the IGs’ “shared mission to reduce costs and improve efficiency throughout the federal bureaucracy,” through audits, investigations, and ultimately recommendations for reform, “with the potential to save taxpayers approximately $45.1 billion” in the most recent fiscal year. The letter was sent to the SEC, among other agencies.
