Maxine Waters Takes Helm of House Financial Services Committee, Makes Diversity a Priority

House Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters (D-CA) announced Wednesday that she is creating the panel's first subcommittee on diversity and inclusion. The goal is to boost the number of women and minorities working in the financial industry. Said Waters to an audience at the Center for American Progress in Washington: "Diverse representation in these institutions, and particularly at the management level, is essential to ensure that all consumers have fair access to credit, capital, banking, and financial services." Joining Waters on the committee, reports the Washington Post, is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other progressive members of the party, including Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
