Investors Say Advisors Have Important Role in ESG Investing

A Natixis Investment Managers survey of 8,550 investors in 24 countries found that most feel corporations have a duty to protect the environment and improve the community, and they expect advisors and fund managers to participate in investment decisions and research concerning assets that account for environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Most respondents said advisors and managers must help address social issues through their investments, with 55% believing managers should divest their shares in companies with poor ESG records, while 74% expect them to engage with the companies they are invested with to shape ESG and better business practices. Natixis said 41% said they lack sufficient knowledge about ESG investing, which implies "that not only can advisors play an important role by educating clients about ESG, they can and should broaden these conversations with more clients."
