Proposed Bill Would Expand Access to Retirement Plans to Part-Time Workers

A bill soon to be introduced in the House and Senate would give part-time workers access to retirement plans offered to a company's full-time employees. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced plans Tuesday to introduce the Part-Time Worker Bill of Rights Act, which would, among other things, amend ERISA to give part-time workers who have worked at least 500 hours for two consecutive years access to retirement plans if they are offered by their employers to full-time workers.
